Creating a SnapPlus soil test import file from a spreadsheet
You can use a spreadsheet program to edit a comma delimited file or an Excel spreadsheet which SnapPlus will recognize as a soil test import file if you follow a couple of rules.
- Download the following spreadsheet template by right clicking on the link and then choosing “Save link target as…” from the popup menu. RIGHT CLICK HERE for spreadsheet. This spreadsheet has labels for all the columns that need to be in the import file. Do not delete any of the header labels.
- Open the spreadsheet and enter or copy your data into it. SnapPlus expects that each import file will be for a single farm, but with as many different crop fields and samples as necessary.
- There is one line per soil sample results. SnapPlus DOES NOT import averaged data at this time.
- The first six columns (LabID through FieldName) require a value, except that FSAFarm can be missing if the customer has not supplied one. The remaining columns (7-23) can be empty, except that some value must be entered for BpH even if it is zero. This is so that when you save the spreadsheet, the correct number of columns are created in your import file.
- When you are done, save this spreadsheet with a new name using File/Save As… from the spreadsheet program menu. Make sure it gets saved as type CSV (in the edit box below where you type in the file name). If you save it in your SnapPlusImport directory, then it will be easy to find from within SnapPlus.
- You can check the file by viewing it in a text editor such as NotePad. There should be the same number of comma separated data in every row.
